Sri Lanka’s exports increased by 4.67% in August

COLOMBO, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) — Sri Lanka’s total exports in August 2024 were $1.4 billion, an increase of 4.67 percent over the same month last year, the country’s Export Development Council said on Monday.

Citing data from the Sri Lanka Customs Office, EDB reported that merchandise export performance for August 2024 was $1.1 billion, an increase of 4.18% compared to the same month in 2023.

This was mainly due to an increase in export revenues from clothing and textiles, tea, rubber products, coconut-based products, spices and concentrates.

After a two-year break, the export of clothing and textiles exceeded the USD 500 million mark in August 2024.

The estimated value of services exports for August 2024 was 318.77 million US dollars, an increase of 6.49%. compared to the same period in 2023.
