Bryan police are reporting an increase in student arrests for possession of THC-filled vape pens

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Bryan police are reporting an increase in the number of students arrested by school officials for possessing THC-filled vaping devices.

Since August, school resource officers have arrested 14 people for possessing THC-containing vape pens. Last year at this time there were 11 of them.

Data from the Bryan Police Department covers the period from early August to early October in both 2023 and 2024.

Arrest reports indicate that several students were caught with these devices in school bathrooms.

According to the police, possession of THC is a crime.

“These THC vape carts are dangerous in the hands of children who have never used them before, simply because the concentrate contains so much more than regular marijuana. Again, a criminal charge is a felony charge,” explained Officer Seth Waller of the Bryan Police Department.

Research by the National Institutes of Health shows that about 10% of high school students use THC-filled vaporizers.
