Investigators seek help finding woman and car used in deadly hit-and-run

Cumberland County police are trying to find a car and a woman after they say 21-year-old Caroline Bump was shot in a hit-and-run in Millville early Tuesday morning.

MILLVILLE, New Jersey – “It’s sad. It’s really sad,” said Judy Brown. He stopped by the scene on Glenside Road where police say a 21-year-old woman was killed.

Two bouquets of flowers remained in a grassy area near where investigators say she was killed in a hit-and-run.

“It’s sad. He was so young,” Brown said.

Millville Police responded to the area in Cumberland County just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning for a report of a person who appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle.

That’s when they found Caroline Bump, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police listed his address as Mallard Street, one block from the scene.

Investigators say neighborhood security cameras determined that the hit-and-run actually occurred just over two hours earlier, around 11:15 Monday night. A passerby found Caroline’s body.

“I was on my way to work and I was about to turn the corner and I saw police officers, road closures and caution tape,” Gabrielle Goodale said. She and her husband Matt live in the neighborhood.

“We were watching the football game on Monday night and around 11 o’clock I heard a car speeding in front of our house. It looked like the headlights were off because the neighbor’s house across the street had backlighting on it so a light could be seen. The car was passing by,” Matt said.

Investigators say images from surveillance cameras show the car they believe was used in the hit-and-run.

They say it is a 2003 silver Infinity G35 with NJ registration E41RLB. The headlight, windshield and front bumper on the driver’s side of the vehicle may be damaged.

Cumberland County detectives want to speak with 22-year-old Breanna Rowley in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that killed 21-year-old Caroline Bump.

She is Breanna Rowley, 22, of Delmar Avenue in Vineland.

“I hope they catch whoever did this,” Brown said.

The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation.
