As Manchester United drew 1-1 with Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday night, Erik ten Hag’s side set an unwanted record.

It’s been a full calendar year since United won European football.

That success came on October 24, 2023, when United beat Copenhagen 1-0 at home in the Champions League.

On this occasion, Harry Maguire scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute, and Andre Onana saved Jordan Larsson’s penalty in stoppage time.

Since then, United have failed to win either the Champions League or the Europa League. Here are the statistics of United’s poor performance.

Conceding goals has become a major problem for Ten Hag’s side in Europe, as evidenced by the fact that they have conceded 13 goals in six matches.

United have managed to score eleven times in these six games but have yet to win.

Ten Hag’s side are currently languishing in 21st place in the Europa League table and have some work to do if they are to progress to the next stage of the competition.

United are in the midst of their longest winless run in Europe since 1983. They hope to end the run on November 7 when they face PAOK at home.

What’s more, United have just one win in their last eleven European games, something Ten Hag will surely have to correct if he is to remain at the helm.

United’s winless run in Europe began with a return game away to Copenhagen, which they lost 4–3.

This was followed by a 3-3 draw away to Galatasaray and a 1-0 home defeat to Bayern.

This season in Europe there are also draws against Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce.

After the 3-3 draw with Porto earlier this month, Maguire suggested United were having “mental problems” in Europe.

Maguire told TNT Sports: “I think it’s more of a psychological issue, it has to do with faith.

“This is something we need to be aware of and make sure that when we do fall, we stick together and regroup.”
