Arrest after stabbing in city center

Medicine Hat police say they arrested a 34-year-old man following a stabbing in downtown Wednesday.

The unidentified man is in custody and has been charged with assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, according to a statement released Thursday morning.

It says officers were called to the area of ​​First Avenue and Sixth Avenue, where they found a male with “non-life-threatening” injuries and transported him to the hospital.

Police spotted the fleeing suspect, but he was caught a short time later.

MHPS Major Crimes teams also reportedly found a gun in the area.

The suspect is currently in custody and awaiting a bail hearing.

There was no person facing such a charge on the hearing list for Thursday’s local court session at the Court of Justice.
