Stalker pleaded guilty

A Kamloops man will undergo a psychological assessment while behind bars after pleading guilty Thursday to charges stemming from a campaign of harassment and stalking of his ex that lasted more than a year.

Michael McDonald, 47, pleaded guilty in Kamloops provincial court to charges of criminal harassment and criminal mischief and three counts of failure to comply with an undertaking.

The crimes began in April 2023 and continued until July. The victim is his ex-wife.

During a bail hearing last month.the court heard MacDonald shot through his ex’s window with an air pistol and threatened to kill her. He also repeatedly sent her text messages and was accused of following her and keeping a written record of her movements.

McDonald has no previous criminal record. During a September bail hearing. The prosecutor said the Crown would likely seek a sentence of more than two years.

Following his guilty plea Thursday, Kamloops provincial court Judge Michelle Stanford ordered MacDonald to undergo a preliminary report with a psychological component.

Lawyers will return to court on January 6 to set a sentencing date for him.

MacDonald remains in custody.
