The jury found the accused guilty of murdering his girlfriend

A takeaway delivery worker has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend after he “punched, kicked and stomped on her”.

Sonya Parker, 52, died on the floor of her home in Edenbridge earlier this year after being attacked by her partner Huseyn Kaloncu.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter, admitting his actions caused her death, but denied one count of murder ahead of a two-week trial at Maidstone Crown Court.

A jury today (October 25) found him guilty of one count of murder.

Last week court heard how Ms. Parker, a mother of two, died from blunt force trauma to the head and torso.

Prosecutor Eloise Marshall K.S. explained that the pathology report showed the victim had 69 external injuries, most of which predate her death, and her body had been “punched, kicked and stomped on.”

On the morning of May 5, Kalenku, who arrived in the country from Cyprus five years ago, called an ambulance, but despite the efforts of doctors, Ms. Parker died on the spot.

The Turkish Cypriot’s panicked 999 call was played in court, where he told operators: “We were fighting and she fell.

He told them: “I got into a fight with my girlfriend, then I hit her a little bit, then she fell on the floor and I need an ambulance.”

The court heard Kalyonku called his friend Typhoon Deveci asking for help and his mother told her Ms Parker “wouldn’t wake up” before calling the ambulance service.

Testimony last weekMedical student Nicola Thoms, who was first on the scene, explained to the jury that Kalenku grabbed her arm and told her in a “panicked” manner: “Help her, help her.”

Defense attorney Christopher Martin asked the emergency worker how Kalyonka was doing while she was receiving CPR.

She said: “The man came back into the house several times in the hallway and was huddled in the corner, sweating and crying.”

When Constable Goodman arrived, he said he asked the accused what had happened and was told he had “fought” and “punched” Ms Parker.

The officer then arrested Kalyonka on suspicion of assault, with the accused immediately saying: “I know this is not right.”

The court this week then heard from Detective Constable Charlene Brent about the investigation into the death of Ms Parker, who worked as a cleaner and takeaway driver where she met Kalenka.

She told the jury that while the couple were in a relationship, bank transfers and payments suggested Ms Parker had spent thousands of pounds on her partner, including buying more than £1,000 worth of clothes from Sports Direct and JD Sports.

Messages read by Ms Marshall showed the victim purchasing pot for Kalenku and he regularly bombarded her with abusive messages, often telling her to “fuck off” and “shut up” and that she was “stupid”.

As messages from the morning of May 5, when Ms Parker died, were read to the court, Kalenku was in tears and needed a short break.

However, Lucy Sweetland, defending, read messages to the court from the defendant saying he would pay Ms Parker back and told her to stop sending him money and he did not need her help.

Bank transfers also showed he transferred money to her, meaning it was not obvious who paid for what, Ms Sweetland added.

Footage from police body cameras was played in court on Tuesday, showing Kalenku crying in his cell when he was told Ms Parker had died, saying: “How do I do this?”

The jury retired Wednesday afternoon and arrived today with a guilty verdict.

Speaking after the trial, Detective Superintendent Kathleen Way said: “Calyonka subjected Ms Parker to a sustained campaign of violence.

“He insulted the woman he should have loved and protected. He physically punished her behind closed doors for routine activities that others take for granted, such as using social media or talking to friends.

“The jury had no choice but to find him guilty of Ms. Parker’s untimely death.

“I hope the sentence will bring her family and friends some comfort that her killer will receive a significant prison sentence as a consequence of his disgusting behavior.”

Kalenko will be sentenced on December 11.
