Upstate mom and stepfather reach plea deal in 12-year-old girl’s death

FOUNTAIN INN, SC (FOX Carolina) – An upstate couple has pleaded guilty in the death of a 12-year-old girl.

Schonetta and Barki Faust pleaded guilty to manslaughter as well as a charge of unlawful child endangerment, according to the court clerk.

The plea deal comes just days before his murder trial begins.

In May 2022, Ashantae Unique Glenn died shortly after being rushed to the emergency room at Prisma Health Hillcrest Hospital.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed Glenn died from a throat injury that caused her to inhale blood and develop acute bronchopneumonia. Her death was officially ruled a homicide.

Shonetta and Barki Faust, the child’s mother and stepfather, were arrested and charged with murder in June 2022, officials said.

The court clerk said the couple’s sentences will run concurrently and they will receive credit for time served, meaning the couple will spend just under 8 years in prison.
