Detroit Tigers outfielder wins prestigious fielding award

The World Series is here, but Detroit Tigers We’re weeks into the offseason after getting knocked out of the ALDS. Cleveland Guardians (who were then knocked out New York Yankees).

While Tigers fans wait to see what steps their front office will take to bolster the roster this winter, at least they got some good news on the awards front, especially in the outfield department.

Last week, catcher Jake Rogers was named finalist for the Golden Glove Award, the results of which will be announced on November 3.

And this week, outfielder Riley Green received his first Fielding Bible Award.

The Fielding Bible Award is essentially the Golden Glove Award for the sabermetrics community. It is voted on by baseball analysts rather than coaches and managers and includes more statistical analysis, making it a better measure of a player’s performance.

Greene is a perfect example of this. Despite being MLB’s leading left fielder with 14 defensive runs saved, he was completely overlooked by Gold Glove voters. He’s not even in the top three finalists for the award he probably deserves.

At the very least, the Fielding Bible Award is a nice consolation prize for Green, who has a .986 fielding percentage and four assists in 106 defensive games this season. This is the first Fielding Bible Award for the 24-year-old, who also made the All-Star team for the first time this year.

Greene also had a great season at the plate. He set career highs in many categories, including home runs (24), RBI (74) and OPS (.827).

With his stellar offense and defense, Green was worth a career-high 4.8 WAR in helping Detroit this season. reach the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Let’s hope Rodgers has better luck than Green in the Gold Glove department next weekend, but at least Green has some equipment for his efforts.
