Lack of safety at site of fatal Oxford bike crash ‘distressing’

The court heard that although there were signs on the road saying “no cycling” they were not particularly visible and were rarely acknowledged.

Mr Friedhoff said: “We all know this is ridiculous – it’s too narrow for pedestrians, let alone cyclists.”

To change behavior in the area, he said cyclists “need to know that someone has died here.”

“It is frustrating and sad that no solution has been found,” he added.

The land is owned by the Environment Agency (EA), while the footpath is managed by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC).

Mr Salter said as part of his decision he would produce a regulation 28 report aimed at how the EA and OCC could improve safety in the area to prevent future deaths.
