Bay District Schools wants to update dress code policy

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP)— On Tuesday, Bay Area School Board members proposed a new dress code policy. However, the district still needs to take a few steps before this can be implemented.

BDS officials say they relaxed the dress code in 2018 following Hurricane Michael, and that those minor changes will now reflect the pre-Michael dress code.

The district formed a working group consisting of students, teachers, parents and community members to gauge changes that might need to be made.

One of the most discussed changes was the leggings/yoga pants. The change will now ensure that such trousers are only allowed if underwear or a skirt of at least mid-thigh length is worn.

“If there’s one thing I can ask, it’s for our parents to work with us on what’s appropriate and what’s not. “When your child leaves in the morning, take the opportunity to check what he or she is wearing,” said Bay District Schools School Board President Steve Moss. “If you’re on edge and thinking, ‘I don’t know if this is appropriate,’ let’s err on the side of caution and not let them leave the house wearing something that might violate the dress code. ”

The policy revision will be discussed during a meeting. public hearing December 10 at 13.00
