Dramatic video shows Medina County first responders rescuing woman from burning house

YORK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – A Medina County woman is lucky to be alive Thursday after a brave rescue from her burning home.

The fire broke out around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Branch Road near the railroad tracks in York Township.

Dramatic video posted on 19 News shows Medina County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters from several departments running toward the home.

Smoke from the structure rises into the sky as a police officer approaches the scene.

The 31-year-old woman, who was trapped inside, talked to the attendant for several minutes while waiting to be rescued.

She was terrified, screaming “Oh my God” at the dispatcher, but she remained calm and came up with a plan so first responders could find her.

When first responders arrived, the home’s detached garage was completely engulfed in flames.

While he was trying to save the woman, the fire spread to the house.

In the video, deputies and firefighters finally find the basement window where the woman is waiting for them.

They break down the door and a firefighter goes in to help him get out, according to the video.

He was checked out, treated and released at a local hospital.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office said six first responders, four sheriff’s office personnel and two firefighters were treated at local hospitals following the fire.

They were all treated and released.

Nearly a dozen agencies responded to the fire, and the Ohio State Fire Marshal will lead the investigation.
