Shaquille O’Neal irritates WNBA star with tired arguments: ‘I hate it when men talk like that’

The NBA is great Shaquille O’Neal twice rejected his controversial “solution” to increase WNBA participation and player salaries.

In an appearance on Chicago Sky star Angel Reese‘s “Angel Without Apologies” Thursday’s podcast, O’Neill reconsidered my arguments lower the hoop so more WNBA players can dunk.

“Just so we can dunk? No,” Reese said. “I hate it when men say that.”

O’Neill, father figure Reese has said from her days at LSU that the only difference between the NBA and WNBA is the dunk.

“Bro, a pretty girl dunking on the rim? I’ve been watching this all day,” O’Neill said.

“No woman who dunks excites a man,” Reese laughs.

“It’s not about excitement,” O’Neill responded. “It’s about seeing what you shouldn’t see.”

“What do you mean, shouldn’t see?” However, there are women who can dunk,” Reese said.

O’Neal then used Caitlin Clarke’s signature and three-point logo as an example of the novelty brought to the game.

“We’ve never seen this before. That’s my point of view,” he said. “She does something we’ve never seen before. I never saw anyone on a regular basis. There’s a lot of girls in the WNBA who have done it in spurts, but that game I’m watching you in the Final Four, I’m like, “Damn.”

“And I was a hater because you know I’m with you, like, ‘She’s not going to hit that shot.’ And then, bam, it hits the target…

Reese, however, questioned the notion that lowering the rim would have a significant impact on viewer engagement and player salaries.

“I feel like it still won’t be good enough. It will never be good enough,” she said. “People always disrespect women no matter what. They will always not give us the same value as a man.”
