Alcohol implicated in fatal I-90 crash near Salem

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The 26-year-old woman killed in a three-vehicle crash two miles southeast of Salem has been identified.

The Department of Public Safety says the vehicle was traveling westbound on Interstate 90 near mile marker 366 when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the beginning of a guardrail before re-entering the roadway where the vehicle was struck by a truck. The semitrailer then collided with the front of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Destiny Annmarie Fine of Canistota, was airlifted to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Department of Public Safety says alcohol is believed to be a factor in the initial collision with the guardrail.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
