Rapper Lil Durk arrested in Florida on murder-for-hire charges

Rapper Lil Durk was arrested Thursday in Florida by U.S. Marshals on murder-for-hire charges, records show.

The 32-year-old Chicago artist, whose legal name is Durk Devontay Banks, was booked into the Broward County Jail and is being held without bail.

NBC News has reached out to U.S. Marshals and Lil Durk’s representatives for comment.

This comes after five people associated with his hip-hop collective Only the Family were arrested on federal charges in California for murder-for-hire resulting in death, allegedly in retaliation for the death of a bandmate. .

The three alleged OTF members are Kavon London Grant, known as “Kaz” or “Vonnie”; DeAndre Dontrell Wilson, known as “DeDe”; Asa Houston, known as “Boogie,” was indicted by a grand jury for his alleged participation in the murder, according to court documents filed Oct. 17 and made public Thursday.

Keith Jones, known as “Flaka,” and David Brian Lindsey, known as “The Brownies,” who are members of other Chicago gangs, were also charged, according to documents.

The five men could not be reached for comment Friday.

OTF produces and markets hip-hop music from artists primarily based in Chicago. Lil Durk is the founder of the group, according to Chicago Tribuneand has a 2018 album of the same name.

The charging document states that on November 6, 2020, a high-ranking OTF member identified by the initials “DB” got into a physical altercation with someone identified only as “TB” at a nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia. During that struggle, a TB officer pulled out a gun and shot D.B. several times, killing him, prosecutors said.

Five men are indicted on charges of conspiracy and use of interstate facilities to commit murder for hire resulting in death, carrying and firing firearms and machine guns, possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death, possession of a machine gun and forfeiture in criminal procedure.

It is not yet clear whether the men have hired lawyers.
