McLean County prosecutor warns of phone scams

MCLEAN COUNTY (25News now) – McLean County State’s Attorney Erica Reynolds is warning the public about a scam using her office name and address.

Reynolds said the callers are extorting money to pay off outstanding loans and claim to be representing the State Attorney’s Office, demanding that the person give the caller credit card information to pay off an outstanding auto loan.

Reynolds said no one from her office would ever do that. Anyone who receives a call like this is advised to hang up and block the number.

Anyone who has already provided money is asked to report this to the police.
