Netflix will add 30 movies next week, and these 2 can’t be missed

Anyone who’s a fan of streaming content with strong female protagonists is in luck next week thanks to a new cast that Netflix has in stock.

Among the 30 or so TV shows and movies that became hits streaming giant Over the next few days, two shows that stand out (at least to me) as can’t-miss series include the historical drama, and West wingA political thriller in style, one of which has held a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for over a year. We’ll take a closer look at both Netflix additions and new seasons. Diplomat and also The law according to Lydia the Poetbelow.

The latter of these two shows actually hits Netflix first, the day before Halloween. And I can’t stress the following point enough: The law according to Lydia the Poet stars Matilda De Angelis, absolute gem actress – and who can now also be seen in a major Prime Video release, Citadel: Diana (Italian spin-off of futuristic spy drama Prime) Citadel from 2023).

De Angelis’ Netflix show tells the story of the real-life first female lawyer in Italy, and in season two, Lidia sets her sights even higher than before. Continuing to collaborate with her brother Enrico on new cases, as well as fighting for women’s rights, she wants to convince him to run for parliament so she can change outdated laws written by men. “Lidia is completely done with love,” Netflix adds of the new season, “especially with Jacopo, who is in charge of selling the family villa and is on a collision course with all the Poets.

“But Jacopo and Lidia are forced to meet again to, albeit reluctantly, talk about a secret investigation that concerns them closely, rediscovering the complicity and fun that have always connected them. By causing trouble for the protagonists, the new Crown Prosecutor Furneaux, an institutional man who unexpectedly treats Lydia as an equal, (encourages) her to reflect on the complex and contradictory relationship she has with her feelings, and the cost of personal renunciation. what she stands for in the name of her ideals.”

As I said, De Angelis is ebullient in the series – a mixture of beauty and steely determination. She’s fantastic at everything she does, but it was a particularly inspiring choice to play the courageous woman at the center of this Netflix series who is determined to tear down pieces of a world built by men for men.

Meanwhile, the next release, also out next week, is, in my opinion, one of the best original dramas Netflix has released in recent years.

Season 1 of the series Deborah Kahn Diplomat in the end, of course, I was left hanging and desperate for more of this super exciting drama about politicians and diplomats. In many ways it is a descendant West wingwith its walk-and-talk style and depiction of very important people doing important things (which is fitting considering Kahn actually worked on West wing).

Keri Russell plays Kate Wyler, a brilliant and multi-functional career diplomat who finds herself appointed ambassador to the UK. The end of the first season I mentioned shocked us all with an explosion that left some characters’ fates and plot points in limbo. “Kate’s co-workers and her almost-ex-husband (Rufus Sewell) were the victims of a politically motivated attack in London that took the lives of some and devastated others,” Kahn said during a promotional interview for Netflix.

“The marriage she thought was over, the relationship she thought was just beginning… it’s all piecemeal.”

In the second season, Kate will reveal the essence of this attack and the conspiracy behind it. Fans will also get their first look at a character who was mentioned in the first season but never shown: series vice president Grace Penn, played by Allison Janney. The VP, by the way, who thinks Russell’s Keith Wyler is chasing his job (and who isn’t entirely wrong in thinking so). So help me though, this time it better not be as dramatic a cliffhanger as last time or I might have a heart attack.

What else to see

Meanwhile, in addition to these pair of new Netflix releases, the streamer has plenty more coming next week that are sure to appeal to all streaming tastes and preferences.
