North Korean troops may be sent to Ukraine in the near future – Zelensky

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky warned that Russia could be ready to send in North Korean troops as early as Sunday.

“According to intelligence data, the first North Korean soldiers are expected to be deployed by Russia to combat zones as early as October 27-28,” he said. Zelensky wrote on X on Fridayadding that the troop movement was “a clear escalation on the part of Russia.”

The Pentagon first confirmed the presence of North Korean troops in Russia earlier this week.

“I think this shows that Putin has failed to achieve his strategic goals on the battlefield.”

The number of North Korean soldiers currently in Russia is estimated at 3,000, Singh added, but Ukraine has warned that number could rise to 12,000.

“North Korea’s actual participation in hostilities should not be taken indifferently,” Zelensky wrote in his post.

“The world clearly sees Russia’s true intentions: to continue the war. A principled and decisive response from world leaders is essential.”

Earlier this week, National Security Adviser John Kirby warned that if North Korean troops were deployed to fight in Ukraine, it would be “fair game”.

“These are fair goals. And the Ukrainian military will defend itself from North Korean soldiers in the same way as they defend themselves from Russian soldiers.”
