Dutchman wins million from Elon Musk’s political committee

HOLLAND, MI – A Holland man became an overnight millionaire after winning Elon Musk’s political PAC. The contest, organized by Musk’s American PAC, aims to encourage voter registration and support for the First and Second Amendments.

Jason Cochran was surprised by a knock on his door Thursday night, just days after signing an online petition.

He was home alone Thursday watching football on TV when he received a surprise visit from America PAC.

They handed him a large fraudulent check for $1 million.

“Just a few weeks ago my wife asked, ‘What would you do if you won a lot of money?’ Cochran recalls. “We both just said we’ll probably just keep doing what we’re doing.”

To qualify for the lottery, Cochran signed a petition supporting the First and Second Amendments.

“It’s still hard to believe.”

He emphasized that there were no conditions attached to the award.

“They didn’t say I had to vote for… I didn’t have to vote, period. I didn’t have to vote for anyone,” Cochran explained. “It’s just amazing to come here just to do something that I would have done anyway.”

Musk’s US PAC is giving away $1 million daily between October 22 and November 5 to registered voters who sign a petition in battleground states.

Cochran intends to use the prize money to support causes he believes in.

His family and another West Michigan man recently launched Route, a Christian trade school program for homeschoolers.

“Trade is very important, and there wasn’t a good way to get more kids involved,” Cochran explained.

Unlike some lottery winners, Cochran doesn’t plan to spend the money on luxury items.

“There’s peace of mind here now,” he said Friday. “No plans to go out and buy anything.”

Cochran is the first person from Michigan to win one of the $1 million prizes.

Musk posted information about each recipient on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Winners will be announced daily until the election.

“One of the great things about making money is knowing that you can help other people,” Cochran said.

The initiative has not been without controversy, with some political voices raising concerns about its legality and some arguing it could violate federal laws that prohibit paying people to vote.
