ACT 13: CenterPoint fixes leaning pole in Spring area months after Hurricane Beryl

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) – A leaning Centerpoint pillar left behind by Hurricane Beryl’s winds is causing concern in a Spring neighborhood near Wisteria Walk.

Neighbors told ACTION 13 they have called the company several times since July, but no one has helped them.

One frustrated homeowner told us she turned to Action 13 after giving Centerpoint several opportunities to resolve the issue.

Months later, they say there was no movement on their initial July requests for help until Action 13 intervened.

“I feel like it’s a safety hazard,” homeowner Maureen Valenta said. “Help us get out!!”

Maureen Valenta has created an oasis in her backyard in Spring, a place her grandchildren love to visit. However, over the past few months she became concerned that the Centerpoint pole was leaning due to high winds caused by Hurricane Beryl, causing cables to dangle dangerously.

She showed the Action 13 pole on Wednesday and explained her disappointment.

“We ended up with a light pole that I tried and tried and tried to get Centerpoint to fix,” Valenta said.

By Friday, Centerpoint finally visited the home and confirmed that a new pole had been installed. They told ABC13 they moved all the electrical distribution equipment, but could not remove the additional leaning pole until the attached telecommunications wires were removed.

Comcast officials say after ACTION 13 reached out, they sent a crew to the site to move their lines off the tilted pole.

“When they put the new one in, they should have taken that half-post out and attached everything to it,” Valenta said.

Centerpoint said in a statement:

“Our teams are committed to ensuring the safety and reliability of our electrical services for our customers. Our operations team investigated the tilted pole near 2706 Wisteria Walk and confirmed that CenterPoint Energy installed a new pole to replace it and relocated all utility poles. distribution equipment to the new pole. To be clear, the wires and equipment that remain on the original pole are customer-owned underground infrastructure and telecommunications wires that are owned and operated by the customer and companies not affiliated with CenterPoint.

When CenterPoint Energy installs a new support, the company notifies those responsible for other attachments to relocate their equipment, and we temporarily support their facilities during the permanent move. We are working to expedite the re-erection of the sites at this address and our crews will return to complete removal of the original pole once this process is complete.”

Comcast tells Action 13 in a statement:

“In response to your request, we had a team on site who reported that there was an old pole on the site, and a new pole had already been installed. Our line was transferred to a new post. Centerpoint was also on site to deliver their cues. The work should be completed, but if you have any further questions, please let me know.”

Valenta hopes this will be fixed soon.
