Benefit to help beloved Norwich charity couple requires donations

NORWICH (WBNG) — For more than 50 years, Mema and Bear Planty have been providing assistance to people in need in Norwich.

Now they need help too.

The roof of the laundry room at their home at 82 Rexford Street collapses. This could make it impossible for Mema and Bear to wash the pounds of clothing they receive as donations for those in need.

Denise Braziel, Mary Mirader and Heidi Moore are making sure that doesn’t happen. The group is holding a charity event for the couple to raise funds for the renovation.

“We as a community decided we needed to help them. It’s our turn to repay what they gave,” Mireider said.

Meme and Bear are grateful to the group for the initiative.

“Their benefit should surpass us, and we are very glad that they are helping us,” Medved said.

Benefits will include live music, a 50/50 raffle, a bake sale and a Chinese auction. The group said the outpouring of love from the community has been wonderful, but additional donations are always welcome.

“I’m looking forward to raising enough money to build that roof and get it to where it needs to be because these people have hearts the size of states,” Moore said. “I would just like everyone to do their part and give back. their.”

The benefit will take place on November 2nd at the Elks Club in Norwich, starting at 1pm. Admission is $5. The group says if you would like to make a donation, you can drop off your items at the club on the morning of the fundraiser.
