Free Family Halloween Festival Returns to Town

A free Halloween festival returns to Manchester city center this weekend.

Halloween in the city runs from Saturday to Sunday, but events such as the MCR Monsters art tour will continue throughout the half-year.

The festival is open every day from 10am BST and will also include a ‘monster music festival’, a monster parade and a Halloween market.

Organizers from the Manchester City Center Business Improvement District (BID) said the event, now in its eighth year, was the largest Halloween celebration in the UK.

Among the Halloween monsters appearing in the city will be Wibbly Wobbly Williams at the AO Arena, Hellvis at Manchester Arndale and Wailor Swift at New Century in NOMA.

When darkness falls, some city buildings will turn a sickening green and thousands of jack-o’-lanterns will glow along city streets, a BID spokesman added.

Monsters Rock main stage! The music festival takes place on Exchange Square, with entertainment from DJs including Fat Boy Slime and Grave Haslam, from 10am to 7pm on Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday.

Monster Rock! Party Procession from the Walk the Plank team will feature monster puppets and a five-piece orchestra. It will take place in Manchester, Arndale and Market Street at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm both days.

Families are also invited to join the Team Trick or Team Treat Challenge, which runs daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The bracelets can be collected on New Cathedral Street, next to the Zara store, and people have the chance to earn points by taking part in spooky games.

Other events will include the Halloween Market in St Anne’s Square, which will open at 10am on both days, closing at 7pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday.
