Osuna Government Warns Unauthorized Groups Claiming to Control Commercial Vehicle Drivers

The Osun State Government has issued a stern warning to all unauthorized groups claiming authority over commercial drivers in the state.

The state government, through the Department of Transport, has also warned that such actions could lead to legal consequences.

In a statement issued on Friday and shared with DAILY POST, the Commissioner for Transport, Sesan Oyedele, said the only government recognized body in charge of commercial drivers in Osun State is the Osun State Transport Management System (OSTMS), headed by Wakil Nurudeen Alowonle.

Oyedele, in a statement, called on the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to desist from actions that could destabilize the transport sector in the state.

Oyedele stressed that under the watch of OSTMS, the state has experienced a period of stability and order in the commercial transport sector.

He advised residents and commuters to ensure their safety by only boarding vehicles bearing the OSTMS logo at parking lots.

“The government values the safety of our people and OSTMS is the only body we can confidently support.”

The ministry also said that the notice served as a reminder to all stakeholders in the transport sector to comply with government-mandated regulations and avoid any actions that may disturb public peace.

The statement reads: “How can an organization not recognized by the government boast that it will overthrow the current government? Are they saying they want to cause chaos in the state?”

“Under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke, Osun State has been peaceful and moving forward. Commercial drivers in the state are under the supervision of the Osun State Transport Management System.

“I am using this medium to warn any group parading themselves as the authority in charge of commercial drivers in the state to henceforth desist from doing so as the law will not treat them lightly.”

The statement came after the NURTW leadership in the state led by Kazeem Oyewale vowed to vote for Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2026.

This decision was taken by the management of Osun NURTV at a meeting in Ilesa on Wednesday.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of Osun NURTW, Acting Chairman Oyewale said their decision was based on the fact that Governor Adeleke, upon assuming office, dismissed the members from their jobs and replaced them with the Park Manager system. .

Oyewale, who condemned the mistreatment of union members by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration since its inception, said no stone would be left unturned to ensure the return of APC to government in 2026.

The Acting Chairman of NURTW, while acknowledging the non-partisanship of the union, noted that it has become mandatory for its members to join a political party that recognizes their existence and protects the welfare and general welfare of its members.

The union also dissociated itself from former state chairman Folorunso Salami, who along with some members joined the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
