The moment Gavin and Stacey fans have been waiting for is almost finally here: the highly anticipated Christmas special will air on Christmas Day.

While it’s not the most raunchy programme, it appears that watching the sitcom has made some British couples feel playful.

New research has revealed the films and TV shows Brits are most keen to star in, including Gavin and Stacey.

LELO experts surveyed 2,000 Brits about their sex lives and found that the majority (65 per cent) said they wanted to try role-play in the bedroom.

Although some respondents said they would like to act out reality shows such as Love Island and Traitors, psychotherapist Kate Moyle advises against using the genre.

“It’s best to stick to fictional characters,” she said.

“The blurred lines between real life relationships and role play can become unclear and it can be difficult to separate them if you then meet or spend time with the person you role played in real life and this can cause anxiety or worry.” when it shouldn’t be.”

As part of the survey, LELO asked respondents whether they would like to use role-playing in the bedroom, as well as their best fantasy scenarios.

The results showed that relationship dramas were the top genre for inspiration, followed by action-adventure-fantasy, historical films and superheroes.

Reality TV came in fifth, followed by science fiction and workplace dramas.

When it comes to individual TV programs and films that serve as inspiration for role-playing games, Fifty Shades of Gray tops the list.

However, other, more unusual options were also popular.

Several respondents said they wanted to re-enact Love Island, while music fans said Wicked was their inspiration in the bedroom.

Surprisingly, professional football was the sixth most popular TV show or movie on the list!

“Inspiration can come from all directions, with many respondents choosing to take characters from series such as James Bond, EastEnders, Last Wine of the Summer and Gavin & Stacey,” LELO said.

“Whereas others use their own imagination and most often refer to emergency services (nurses and firefighters) or workplace scenarios including office colleagues.”

Unsurprisingly, the results revealed disparities between the sexes.

When it came to historical inspiration, women said they were more inspired by Bridgerton, while men chose Gladiator.

Meanwhile, men were four times more likely to want to play Doctor Who and Spider-Man, while women were twice as likely to choose Star Wars and Wicked.

If you’re thinking about trying role-playing games inspired by TV or film, Ms Moyle advises being clear with your partner about your preferences.

“Have a solid yes and a solid no up front,” she said.

“Although the idea of talking about it sooner may make it less spontaneous, a little planning will go a long way.

“You may really like the idea of a certain character or scene, but it’s helpful to point out to your partner the parts of it that you find most erotic or exciting so that they can really get on with it.”
