TG DGP warns constables against disciplinary action

As Telangana Special Police constables joined the protest started by their wives, DGP Jitender issued a statement asking them to stay away and warning that indiscipline will attract criminal penalties against them. TGSP constables from different battalions today held protest marches in uniform at various places in the state demanding fair treatment after a senior police officer shot at their wives during counselling. He wondered aloud who had proposed marriage to the women to the Telangana Special Police constables. Meanwhile, BRS leaders also criticized the Congress government over the protests by special police constables.

In a statement issued by the DGP following protests by special police constables, he mentioned that the salaries and allowances of police officers are the highest compared to other states. They are also given attendance leave and additional attendance leave as they are on duty even during festivals. He said: “In such circumstances, it is inappropriate for TGSP employees to protest on the streets. TGSP is an organized and disciplined force and the image of the police department must be protected.”

The DGP also urged them to raise issues at the appropriate forum rather than take to the streets. “We address the TSSP officers and their families as senior police officers, we consider complaints on merits and officers are encouraged to carry out their duties as normal. If there are any concerns, they can be discussed at the Darbar with the officers/commandants/ADGPs, TGSPs and other senior officers,” he said in a statement.

He also warned: “…indiscipline in the security forces is a very serious problem which attracts the provisions of the Police Forces (Limitation of Rights) Act and the Police (Incitement to Discontent) Act and is punishable according to law.”

Wives of special police officers began protests after changes to the leave policy. Previously, battalion constables were allowed leave after 15 days, but this interval was increased to 26. Although this period was later postponed, the situation was further aggravated when a senior police officer apparently told the wives during a consultation who had asked them to marry him. Meanwhile, BRS working president KT Rama Rao wrote on ‘X’: ‘Fantastic governance in Telangana. The police are rebelling against the police. “If you choose a clown, wait for the circus.” Another BRS leader T. Harish Rao wrote, “Police personnel are raising slogans like workers.” A fight broke out between the police and the family members of the constables as the latter wanted to stage a protest on the Nagarjunasagar Highway but were stopped.
