WARSAW — Who taught you to read and enjoy reading? Did you frequent the local library when you were young? Are you taking advantage of everything your local library has to offer right now?

Libraries are not obsolete. Not only are there books on just about any topic you can imagine, but there are also puzzles, games, a library of things to borrow (too many items to list here), and help with genealogy, document copying, and more.

Libraries are important, and we at the Friends of the Warsaw Community Public Library hope you think so too. Our organization is engaged in popularizing and supporting the work of our library. We are raising funds and have purchased many things for the library that cannot be covered by the library’s budget. These items include a water fountain/bottle filling station on the lower level, two computers used in the children’s area, an AED unit on the second floor and reading chairs in the adult area upstairs. We also provide volunteers for some library programs. Our monthly staff treats are just a small way to show encouragement and gratitude to the wonderful staff who are so kind and helpful to all library patrons. The Story Emporium is our used book store and helps us reach our fundraising goals. It is located on the lower level and is open on Saturdays.

We will be sponsoring our third annual Lights of Love tree in December. You can honor a loved one by purchasing a light bulb for your tree. A special acknowledgment of your gift will be displayed on your lamp and will be given to you after the first year of the year. All proceeds from this project will support library programs.

The group of friends meets at 1:00 pm on the first Monday of every month in the lower level conference room. If you would like to join us, please meet one of us at the entrance table during the week of October 21st. Annual membership dues are as low as $20 and entitle members to discounts at our bookstore, as well as many other benefits. We will answer any questions you may have and tell you how you can become part of this wonderful support system for the Warsaw Community Public Library. We always have room for more friends.
