Indian River County Sheriff warns of scammers posing as deputies in loan scams

Indian River County residents and businesses are being warned about a Paycheck Protection Program loan scam in which people are posing as Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) employees.

According to IRCSO, these scammers contact victims by falsely claiming that there are warrants out against them and demanding payment.

They often ask for sensitive information, such as credit card information or even gift cards. In some cases, they go so far as to send out fake arrest warrants to give their claims legitimacy, officials say.

Officials urge residents to remember that legitimate law enforcement will never ask for money over the phone.
