CHILDERSBURG, Alabama ((VBRK) – Construction has begun on a new headquarters in the city of Childersburg.

The station will be built on Highway 280, which the city believes will have a huge impact on reducing speeding and traffic accidents.

The city has long needed a new police station and recently purchased an old medical-surgical building on Highway 280, next to Central Alabama Community College.

The city plans to renovate the building and add a municipal complex. Mayor Pro Tem Bill Moody says the new space allows for faster responses to traffic accidents and other emergencies, while also providing officers with modernized facilities so they can better do their jobs.

“Well, it just gives us faster access to 280. ALDOT is working with us to give us faster access across the median where we can go east on 280. Of course, we’re on the west side of 280. to give us faster access,” Moody says.

Bill Moody says the city has committed $2.3 million toward renovations, with a completion date set for spring 2025. The second phase of this project will upgrade the fire station.
