Jake Tapper criticizes Vance on Trump; White House officials confront him

CNN Jake Tapper fried sen. JD Vance (R-OH) during a tense interview about former Trump administration officials who don’t support the former president’s bid for the White House, in a preview the network shared Saturday night.

Net teased annoying interview between the two, which will air on Sunday morning State of the Union.

In a 38-second clip before Sunday’s program: Tapper pressed Vance it’s difficult to explain your position that the former Donald Trump White House officials opposed him because he wanted peace.

TAPPER: So all ten of these people, including former Vice President Mike Pence, all of these people – have a horribly flawed worldview, and they’re all just going after Donald Trump because they want to send people to war? This is really your argument.

VANCE: Absolutely, that’s my argument.

(CROSSTALK)

TAPPER: Aren’t they conservative Republicans?

VANCE: So all ten of these people…

(CROSSTALK)

TAPPER: Really? These are not conservative Republicans. Aren’t they conservative Republicans who are worried about Donald Trump? It’s not like that, is it?

(CROSSTALK)

VANCE: All these people, Jake, came into power thinking they could control Donald Trump. This is when he said that he wanted world peace -.

(CROSSTALK)

TAPPER: Mike Pence thought he could control Donald Trump? Really? (LAUGHTER)

VANCE: Yes, he did. When he found out he couldn’t, they all turned against Donald Trump.

IN joint letter More than a dozen former Trump administration officials said they support John Kelly’s claim that the former president is being called a fascist, according to Politico. The letter said in part:

We applaud General Kelly for highlighting in detail the dangers of a second Trump term. Like General Kelly, we did not take this decision lightly. We are all lifelong Republicans who have served our country. However, there are times in history when it becomes necessary to put country before party. This is one of those moments. Everyone should heed General Kelly’s warning.

The full interview between Vance and Tapper will air on CNN at 9 a.m. ET on Sunday.
