Kainga Ora said more than 56 apartments were left without power or water after an overnight fire at an apartment complex in Auckland.

Several people were rescued from a three-storey fire at a complex on Albert Street in Otahuhu just after midnight.

Kainga Ora Manukau regional director Angela Pearce said no one was injured but six residents were evacuated.

Firefighters and emergency services were alerted to the fire by an automatic alarm, and 10 units of equipment arrived on the scene. It was localized in less than an hour.

A fire and emergency services investigator was working to determine the cause of the fire.

Pearce said they were concerned to learn of the fire at the building, which has eight apartments, and Kainga Ora was on site assessing the impact of the fire.

“Our first priority has been to review the safety of all our clients… We are arranging alternative accommodation for these clients while assessing the extent of damage to their homes and arranging for any necessary repairs.”
