Fijian boxer Ubaid Haider is fighting for his life in hospital

Fijian featherweight boxer Ubaid Haider, formerly known as Nathan Singh, is currently fighting for his life in a Lautoka hospital.

Hyder was knocked out in the 9th round by Australian Rongqi Zhou in his IBO Asian featherweight title bout at King Charles Park in Nadi.

There are suggestions that Haider appeared dizzy, did not fight back and was unsteady on his feet around the 5th round of the fight.

Questions are being raised about whether the fight should have been stopped then.

Questions are also being raised about the need to undergo doping tests, the availability of ambulances and insurance for boxers.

Family members confirm that Haider suffered a severe brain injury.

After the fight, he lost consciousness in the locker room and was taken to the hospital in a private car.

Haider is recovering from emergency surgery, but family members told fijivillage News that his condition is still unstable.

We sent questions to the chairman of the boxing commission and are waiting for his response.

fijivillage news is also trying to speak to boxing promoter Fredy Chand and IBO president.

Stay tuned to follow developments.
