6. Hair salon Throne is offering free haircuts for the homeless ahead of the giving season.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Rapid City is gearing up for the season of giving as Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner, and one downtown business has the opportunity to spread some holiday cheer by giving back to the community.

At the 6 Throne barbershop in downtown Rapid City, they say, “We got your six.” And it’s not just their words, they mean it with their actions.

One such event took place on Saturday, when the store offered free haircuts to homeless residents in the area. Barber and owner Dom Clucas said he often hosts events like this to show one of the most overlooked populations in the area that they deserve to feel good, too.

“For us hairdressers, the true meaning of being a hairdresser is someone who cares about people. We’re all about it. We are here to make people feel good, empower them and make them feel like the best version of themselves. So today we are here to take care of our homeless relatives in the community of Rapid City. We love this community, so we are here to make the changes we want to see,” Clucas said.

Clucas says something as simple as a haircut can make a big difference. The hair salon has held similar events several times, and many people have been recipients of them on multiple occasions. Monty Good Voice Flute talks about the impact his haircut has had on his life.

“The last time I got my hair cut here was the last time I got my hair cut. I don’t have clippers at home, so when they give haircuts for free here, it means something to me, because not everywhere you can get a haircut for free. This doesn’t happen every day,” Good Voice Flute said.

As well as giving people confidence, 6 Throne aims to give everyone who stops by a safe place and a bit of original barbershop culture.

“Really, just bringing that culture back to Rapid City was my biggest goal when I started because when I was growing up in Rapid, there wasn’t a real barber shop. So just create a safe space and meet people who will make connections you never thought possible. At the end of the day, our clippers don’t discriminate, and we’re here to take care of people and make them feel the best they can,” Clucas said.
