The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge provides colleges and universities with the opportunity to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic participation. MCC was recognized along with more than 500 campuses based on data from Tufts University’s National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement, which found that colleges and universities have the second-highest student voter turnout in midterm elections since NSLVE began measuring it . data.

“Middlesex is proud to receive this recognition from ALL IN for motivating our students to participate in the voting process,” said MCC President Phil Sisson. “In an effort to support our diverse group of students beyond the classroom, tremendous effort has been made throughout the college to provide events and opportunities that prepare our students to be active members of their communities. This critical work helps students understand the importance of voting and the impact and difference they can make on issues that directly affect them.”

“Recognizing ALL In means we have a clear plan of action to promote civic learning, political engagement and student participation in elections on our campuses,” said MCC Civic and Service Learning Coordinator Milissa Duncan. “Part of MCC’s mission is to graduate civically engaged students and to emphasize to young people the importance of voting. To support all students, we want them to be actively involved in their communities and be responsible citizens.”

“The ALL IN Awards were created to recognize nonpartisan Democratic activism and the outstanding voter registration and turnout rates achieved by our ALL IN campuses. With the 2024 elections approaching, ALL IN campuses are ready to build on the momentum gained in 2022 to ensure their communities are ready to make an even greater impact this fall,” said ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Executive Director Jennifer Domagal-Goldman. “ALL IN is proud to recognize and honor top college campuses like Middlesex that demonstrate that nonpartisan student voter participation is possible and effective.”

More than 1,060 institutions, serving more than 10 million students, participate in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, which supports colleges and universities in achieving excellence in nonpartisan student-voter engagement.

“MCC students and their families are directly impacted by many government decisions and policies related to education, student loan debt, health care, child care, and the economy and employment,” Duncan said. “Voting gives them influence and a political voice to influence these decisions. Today’s students are the future of our democracy, and we want to foster a lifelong ethic of civic responsibility and empower students to make a difference in their local, state and national governments.”
