Stopping gerrymandering with Issue 1 will help protect Ohio’s children: Fred M. DeGrandis

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Given the recent murders of children and teachers in Georgia and other events of the past, we should be able to call on the Ohio Legislature to make common sense decisions regarding gun violence. Most Ohioans are disappointed that such action has not yet occurred. The mass shooting in Georgia was the 45th time this year that schoolchildren have been victims of gun violence, CNN reports. Since then there have been at least five.

Why hasn’t our Legislature taken action and how can it begin to implement effective solutions to protect students and their teachers? The answer is to end the current system of drawing congressional districts, which has led to a gerrymandered Legislature.
