President Ali fulfills the promises of the diaspora

– Guyanese overseas thank the head of state for his support

“PRESIDENT Ali, I send you this message of gratitude,” said June Barker, a native Guyanese from Sosdyke, speaking from her current home in Brooklyn, New York.

Her message, which expresses gratitude for NIS’ recent documentation and continued assistance in obtaining passports, highlights the tangible results of President Ali’s commitment to supporting Guyanese in the diaspora.

“I am Guyanese and I would like to come home and live,” Barker shared, her words reflecting the growing sentiment of many Guyanese living abroad who are increasingly looking to return home amid the country’s economic transformation.

“I thank you for sending your delegation here to help us all,” she added.

Barker’s experience confirms the promises made during President Ali’s significant engagement with the diaspora in September 2023, when he held a series of significant interactions with the Guyanese-American community in Brooklyn. During this visit, the President attended a breakfast at the Waterfall Lounge hosted by Doris Rodney and her daughter, and later at the Hibiscus restaurant on Jamaica Avenue in Queens.

During the September visit, President Ali, accompanied by First Lady Arya Ali, outlined his vision for Guyana and answered numerous questions from those present about the country’s progress. His presentation to the Guyana team included details of transformational infrastructure projects including new roads, hospitals and schools.

Today, months after that visit, stories like Barker’s demonstrate how the administration’s promises to streamline services and support returning Guyanese are being fulfilled. As Guyana continues its unprecedented economic growth, the Administration continues to maintain strong ties with the diaspora.

Barker’s message, which ends with the words “May God bless you and live a long life”, represents not only personal gratitude, but also wider appreciation from Guyanese abroad who are finding their journey home made easier by fulfilled government promises.
