Bhubaneswar, Oct 27 (PTI) A team of the Odisha Disaster Response Force has rescued at least 24 people trapped in a village in Bhadrak district that was inundated after Cyclone Dana triggered heavy rains causing several rivers to overflow, officials said faces on Sunday.

The rescue operation was carried out on Saturday evening by personnel of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) at Thala Gopabindha village under Tihidi police station area, they said.

The trapped people, including children, women and elderly people, were rescued using motorized boats and taken to a cyclone shelter, an official statement said.

They were left stranded as the village was flooded due to rising water levels in the swollen Salandi River, the report said.

Satyajit Naik, DIG (Eastern Range), supervised the rescue operation.

“The state’s preparedness and response to natural disasters once again saved lives and mitigated the impact of the flooded Salandi River,” the statement said.
