Three hikers rescued from Eternal Flame Trail in Chestnut Ridge Park

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says after he went missing for four hours in Orchard Park, deputies were able to rescue three hikers early Saturday morning.

It became known for the first time that the tourists were lost around 3:30 am. One tourist called dispatchers and told dispatchers his phone had only 2% battery left, and two other tourists did not have their phones.

“The teamwork demonstrated this morning by our dispatch and patrol units was exemplary,” said Sheriff John Garcia. “Because time was of the essence, they worked quickly, efficiently and diligently to help these three individuals.”

Deputies used RapidSOS to locate the hikers via cell towers. Crews were able to locate them and escort them out of the area.

No one was hurt.
