Jamie Carragher reveals how he thinks Virgil van Dijk can improve after Arsenal’s 2-2 Liverpool draw

Virgil van Dijk was the center of attention for Liverpool as they drew 2-2 with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool The captain canceled out Bukayo Saka’s opening goal in the first half and found himself in the thick of things in an exciting game of football.

Van Dyck his name was put on the scoresheet and there was little he could have done to prevent the two goals Arsenal scored that night.

However, Jamie Carragher believes the Dutchman can still improve despite his status as one of the best defenders in the world as he appears to have pointed out one flaw in his game.

Van Dijk’s height and long strides make it easy to cover long distances, and this is often mistaken for him not trying hard enough.

Speaking after the game, Carragher said the Liverpool captain sometimes plays in “slow motion” and urged him to show more intensity.

“I’ve seen Van Dijk in a Liverpool shirt for six or seven years now and I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen him sprint,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“He plays the same thing in slow motion, and sometimes that’s the only thing you could tell him. At times, could it be more intense?”

On the other side, Carragher gave special praise to Ibrahima Konatenaming the Frenchman the best player on the pitch against Arsenal by a mile.

What Carragher said about Van Dijk earlier this season

Carragher believes Van Dijk was Liverpool’s most important player when they won the title under Jurgen Klopp in 2020, naming the Dutchman as a man the Reds simply couldn’t do without.

He has been an asset to the club since joining in January 2018, but his future hangs in the balance as his contract expires next summer.

Speaking to the media after the draw with Arsenal, Van Dijk said he is confident about his futurebut it remains to be seen what will happen as Liverpool face a race against time to retain the outstanding defender.
