Weekend shooting in Milwaukee; The victims range in age from 12 to 49 years old.

It was a brutal weekend in Milwaukee. One of the victims was just 12 years old, and family members identified the 17-year-old who was shot as Monte Edmond. On Sunday, October 27, a vigil was held in his honor.

Grief and loss filled the air on 18th Street Sunday. Family, friends and classmates gathered to remember Edmond. His mother said Edmond was shot near 18th and Capitol on Saturday.

“Gun violence is just ridiculous,” said Edmond’s mom, Shawnee. “My son was amazing. He had a wonderful personality and touched everyone who was around him.”

Milwaukee Police say Edmond was shot and killed around 4:40 p.m. Saturday. A 20-year-old guy was detained.

“He should have done great things and he shouldn’t have left at 17,” Shawnee said.

The support was comforting. But family members say gun violence among teens needs to stop.

“My message to young people is to be more aware, think critically and don’t do anything you’ll regret,” Shawnee said.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, police said a 12-year-old was shot and killed near 48th and Center. According to police, a 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the case.
