“In general, we want to show the highest quality video we can… But if something doesn’t get viewed for a long time – because the vast majority of views are at the beginning – we will move to lower quality video. And then, if they watch it again, we will redraw the video in higher quality.”

The new algorithm is designed to analyze various factors to determine the potential popularity of a video. These include the number of shares, the rate at which the video gains views, and the overall engagement it receives shortly after being posted. Videos that perform well will be prioritized in users’ feeds, giving creators who already have followers a better chance of reaching a wider audience.
