Sheffield Brass Band looking for a new home after 171 years

The brass band is looking for a new home in the same area where it has been based since its founding 171 years ago.

The Woodhouse Prize Band, based in Sheffield, is considered one of the oldest brass bands in the world.

The group’s life president Janette Grayson described their current 19th-century home, Tythe Barne in Woodhouse, as an “ideal location” but admitted it was no longer financially viable to remain there.

Grayson, 64, said being in Woodhouse was important for the group and that she was “very hopeful” of finding a new base there.
