A car crashes into a house in Derwent Valley in a dramatic high-speed crash.

A driver is lucky to be alive after his car crashed into a house near New Norfolk.

Anne-Marie Keith, who owns a property on the Lyell Highway next to the motorway, said the car appeared to be traveling at about 100km/h when it crashed into her house on Wednesday evening.

“There was significant damage to the fence,” she said.

“In the bedroom he knocked things off the walls and moved the wardrobe 5-10cm.”

Kate and her husband own a tattoo studio out of their home and were planning to hold an open house the day after the crash.

“(We were) driven in tonight. I will still be open for Open House tomorrow. We just need to clean up a little bit,” she told clients.

“We’re doing fine, and there might be some new decorations in my studio garden when you get here, so please enjoy the view.”

It is believed that the car, owned by a 56-year-old man from Muna, failed to negotiate a bend before crashing into the fence of a house and resting against a wall.

The driver of the car was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“The cause of the crash is still under investigation and no charges have been laid at this stage,” a Tasmania Police spokesman told Pulse on Monday.
