SLCPD warns drivers after wheelchair pedestrian hit by car

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Salt Lake City Police Department is urging Utahns to drive carefully during dark commutes during the fall and winter seasons.

The warning was issued after a pedestrian in a wheelchair was struck by a car near 400 South and Redwood Road early Tuesday morning, Oct. 29. The Salt Lake City Police Department said the crash happened just before 6:30 a.m.

The pedestrian suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“This is a good reminder as the seasons change and it gets dark earlier, so be careful,” SLCPD said in a statement. “Drive carefully and make sure all lights are on and working properly.”

The intersection of 400 South and Redwood Road was closed briefly while police investigated and cleared the scene. Detective Michael Ruff confirmed to ABC4.com that the road has since reopened.
