Driver dies in crash after hitting deer in Marlboro County

MARLBOROUGH COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in Marlboro County.

Just after 8 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to Carrollton Avenue near Highway 9, near Bennettsville, for a single-vehicle crash.

LCpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver was on Carrollton Avenue when the car hit the deer, causing the car to leave the road and crash into a ditch.

Butler said the driver was the only person in the car and died at the scene.

The coroner’s office has not released the driver’s name.
