Efland Chicks students will join the North Carolina Elementary Honors Chorus in November performance –

Previously this month, Efland-Chicks Global Elementary students Christian Adkins and Amara White were selected to perform with North Carolina Elementary School Choir.

The North Carolina Music Educators Association will host Winston-Salem Honors Choir at its annual conference November 10. According to Efland-Chicks elementary music teacher Cheri Thomas, the Honors Choir typically receives more than 600 recordings to audition and selects about 180 of them. The chose the students who would performing for their families and music educators across the state.

“I feel happy that I need to go Honors Chorus because it’s really fun to practice singing all the time and go to different places to sing,” Adkins said.

White spoke about her love for singing started with her favorite songs and singing with her mother.

“I’m proud to say I want to be a singer when I grow up.” White said

Thomas said Adkins and White excellent students who love music, and adorable kids to be close.

Thomas oversees the Efland-Chicks’ after-school choral program, Eagle Chorus.. She said she offered group members the opportunity to explore audition piece “Sing for Joy” by G. F. Handel, and apply for an audition.

TomHe said the piece was technically difficult elements, including melismas, that is, singing the same syllable on different notes.

“It’s difficult for everyone, especially children.” Thomas said. “So we worked a lot on how to sing this style of music correctly.”
