Apple’s journal app gets major update with improved AI capabilities

Apple is set to enhance its Journal app with advanced Apple Intelligence features, promising users a more intuitive and personalized journaling experience.

The tech company plans to enhance the Journal app with artificial intelligence (AI) features now that Apple Intelligence is available on the iPhone. The app was originally supposed to be included in iOS 17, but was delayed until iOS 17.2.

Through journaling, Journal app users can record their ideas, feelings, and thoughts. App users can also create personalized alarms to remind them to add new items that are private and visible only to them.

Apple previously revealed that iOS 18 would bring some changes to the Journal app. However, the company has now revealed that Apple Intelligence will also be incorporated into the app.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted a patent that shows several potential uses for artificial intelligence in the Journal app.

According to the patent, AI integrated into the Journal app could notify users when it detects something noteworthy has happened. For example, it could prompt users to write a journal entry if it detects they’ve taken multiple photos in the same place at once.

Apple could update its Journal app with a new timeline structure, allowing users to add photos and music. The app could also use generative AI to suggest creative suggestions. These are just concepts in the patent, so it’s not confirmed whether these features will be implemented anytime soon.
