Temperatures will drop by up to 9C in London as arctic blast brings cold snap to capital

London is bracing for a chilly weekend with a blast of cold air from the north pushing temperatures into the single digits.

The capital will barely escape single-digit temperatures on Saturday and Sunday, according to Met Office forecasts, while parts of Scotland could see snow.

No weather warnings have been issued, but forecasts predict temperatures well below London’s October average of 16C.

For Saturday, Alex Deakin, of the Met Office, said: “It will be a cold weekend.

“There are a lot of clouds around for most of us and some are seeing rain, which will move down to the southeast.”

London and the south east will peak at around 16C but will “get colder” throughout the night and into Sunday.

“With the sky clearing and the air coming from the north, it will be quite cold,” he added.

There will also be some snow on the Scottish mountains.

“Temperatures will get freezing in rural areas… but even then (even in the south) it could be cool,” Mr Deakin said.

On Sunday morning, the temperature will be below 10°C, but it will climb into double digits in the capital in the afternoon.

However, it should warm up next week.

A forecast on the Met Office website added: “It will be cloudy on Monday, with a spell of rain midday. Cloudy with showers Tuesday, with strengthening winds. Cloudy with heavy rain or showers Wednesday. Becoming much softer.

The longer range forecast said: “Following the rain, a drier and brighter interlude is likely, before conditions become unsettled again by next weekend. »

Earlier this week, the BBC apologized after a technical glitch on its website and weather app led to forecasts of “hurricane force winds” for the UK.
