Flickerwood Wine Cellars recently held its second annual Cancer Festival and Fundraiser, raising $16,100 for the Warren Cancer Center.

The community blood bank collected 41 units of blood.

The festival featured 12 musicians who volunteered their time throughout the day, many of whom have played in bands with their father, Ron Zampogna, in recent years. In two years, the Screw Cancer festival and fundraiser has raised a total of $31,000.

“The festival was started to honor our father and other friends with cancer. The initial idea was born in the emergency room when our father needed a blood transfusion and my sister and I wanted to donate blood right away at the hospital, but we couldn’t do it. That’s when we decided to sponsor a blood drive.

“As we talked and in true Zampogna style, it turned into a music festival that raised money for the Warren Cancer Center where our father was being treated and, yes, that included a blood drive.” said Tammy Zampogna-Liberato.

The money was raised through private donations, a live auction, a silent auction, baskets distributed and the sale of lanterns and t-shirts. The festival added a warrior wall and received 50 photos of people who had or died from cancer.

The evening ended with the launch of flying lanterns to honor the loved ones of those who died from cancer.
