WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – PNC Financial Services Group Inc. (PNC) reported third-quarter profit down from the same period last year, but above Street estimates.

The company’s net income was $1.396 billion, or $3.49 per share. That compares to $1.440 billion, or $3.60 per share, in the third quarter of last year.

Analysts on average expected a profit of $3.30 per share, according to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analyst estimates generally exclude special items.

The company’s revenue for the quarter increased 3.8% to $5.432 billion, compared to $5.233 billion last year.
