A man is in police custody after he was found carrying 18 knives, believed to be destined for gangs in south London.

The man, aged 23, was arrested around 2pm on Monday outside Edmonton Green station in Enfield.

After resisting the stop and search, officers discovered the knives along with a quantity of class A and B drugs in a drawstring bag.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of offensive weapons and with intent to supply Class A and B drugs.

He is still detained at a north London police station.

Detective Inspector Lewis Sanderson, who led the operation, said: “Time and again, knife crime and gang violence has terrible, far-reaching consequences that affect both victims and communities that surround them.

“That’s why the Met’s operation to crack down on gangs and knife crime is so important, and why communities strongly support us in this determination.
